Make your voice count and help shape the future of the U of A Library! U of A Library is recruiting new members for the 2025-2026 Student Library Advisory Committee (SLAC). Don't miss this chance to be a part of the group that helps make the U of A Library better for everyone! Your feedback directly influences decisions on library services, technology, and spaces.
Application deadline: October 10, 2025
All current undergraduate and graduate students at U of A are eligible to apply.
In-person meetings will take place on North Campus on the following dates:
- Wednesday, October 29 - 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 19 - 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 21 - 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, February 25 - 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 18 - 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
SLAC members work with library staff to find new ways to improve library services, and help get the word out about library initiatives. Along the way, they get a behind-the-scenes look at one of Canada's largest academic libraries and meet other students from across campus. Please review the information about the committee before submitting your application. We will contact you after that date to let you know if you have been selected for the committee.
What are are looking for:- An interest in libraries paired with a willingness to engage and share your experiences and perspectives about library services and their role in your student experience
- The ability to communicate well
- A commitment to attend and engage in all meetings in both fall and winter terms
- Give input to library decisions
- Meet new people and develop your network at the University of Alberta
- Develop professional skills and gain valuable committee experience
- Get a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of one of Canada's largest academic research libraries
The University of Alberta Library created the Student Library Advisory Committee (SLAC) to better engage with students and improve the student library experience. Committee members provide feedback on library services and can raise issues or share suggestions with the Library. They also serve as library ambassadors to their respective campus communities.
Membership is open to current undergraduate and graduate students at the U of A. Members are selected through an application process. The committee meets roughly once a month during the academic year.

- Affordable Course Materials + Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) Initiative
- Signage and Study Zones
- Research Skills Micro-Courses
- Library Outreach and Giveaways
